Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD), also known as a Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) scan, uses a specialised imaging machine to measure bone density and assess bone strength. It helps diagnose conditions like osteoporosis and osteopenia, which indicate a decrease in bone mass and an increased risk of fractures.
What you need to bring
Just your referral. There is no preparation required for a BMD. The test itself usually takes around 20 minutes.
